As a candidate for Re-Election to the FCM board, I’d like to share a little about myself.

In my many years as Winkler City Councillor, I have served as Deputy Mayor and on many council committees as well as numerous inter-municipal committees, , Pembina Valley Water Co-op, South Central Regional Library, The Red River Basin Commission and Association of Manitoba Municipalities Board

I have lived and worked in Northern, Central, and Southern Manitoba as well as Winnipeg. This has prepared me well to understand the challenges faced by your Municipalities both large and small.

My work experience includes farming, teaching, building contracting, ambulance EMT, and firefighter. I am a proud husband, father of two married children and grandparent to four beautiful grandchildren.

I thank each of you who have reached out to me with challenges in your municipalities. Hearing and knowing your thoughts and concerns help me to learn more about your community and advocate more effectively.

My experience has proven invaluable in advocating for you! I have actively participated in FCM’s advocacy work with board members from across our great nation. As your FCM board advocate, I have proudly represented you, both nationally and internationally.

As Vice-Chair of the Conference Planning Committee, I have strongly advocated for a wide variety of relevant sessions for each of you at this conference.

I believe that we are at our strongest when we work together. I strive to build partnerships with other communities and other orders of government through communication and collaboration. I have spoken strongly at board meetings for Manitoba’s needs. I have built good working relationships with Manitoba MPs of all parties, advocating for and collaborating on how to build a strong Manitoba!

We have had successes, lobbying for better broadband, cellular, doubling and indexing of “Gas Tax” and infrastructure investment, but there is much more to do.

I will continue to lobby for safe, affordable, and thriving communities. including cost of policing, Disaster Financial Assistance, Water and Waste-Water, and affordable housing.

Whether your community is in the north or south, small or large, rural or urban, we all face tough challenges, balancing costs and services. I pledge to continue lobbying for Predictable, Flexible and Long-term funding.

I particularly enjoy working closely with AMM President Kam Blight, together advocating for you at the federal level. Working with our AMM staff, we are a strong, unified voice for Manitoba.

With a federal election imminent, there may well be a number of new MPs. A strong and experienced FCM Manitoba leadership team will help to bring them up to speed on our issues more quickly. I pledge to use my experience to continue to strongly advocate for your needs.

Please feel free to continue to contact me any time at: marvin.plett@cityofwinkler.ca or by text/phone at (204) 362-4148.

It will count an honour to continue representing your municipality on the FCM Board in the coming year.

I respectfully ask for your support and vote

Thank You.
Marvin Plett
