Statement from FCM President Raymond Louie, following meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa (05/02/2016)
OTTAWA - The President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), Raymond Louie, issued this statement following today's meeting between FCM's Big City Mayors Caucus and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:
"FCM's Big City Mayors Caucus met with the Prime Minister to talk about matters most important to Canadian families: jobs, affordable housing and green, liveable communities. In our discussion with the Prime Minister, we talked of a partnership that will see cities, communities and the federal government work together to secure Canada's economic recovery now and into the future.
I expressed to the Prime Minister our belief that the country is on the verge of a historic moment for the cities and communities where we all live. We see Budget 2016 as a potential turning point, when we shift from bold vision to real action. FCM and its 2,000 member cities and communities made it clear again today: we are ready to work with the Prime Minister, his Cabinet and Parliament to get the job done.
I want to thank Prime Minister Trudeau for meeting with FCM's Big City Mayors Caucus. His personal engagement on municipal issues is a matter of real significance and points to the potential strength of our growing partnership."
