Roadmap for Stronger Cities and Communities presents a guide to reducing commute times, safer roads and bridges, cleaner water and more affordable housing
EDMONTON, AB - At the end of a successful conference that saw all federal parties pitching their platforms to mayors and municipal leaders from coast to coast to coast, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) launched its Roadmap for Stronger Cities and Communities today.
The Roadmap presents practical solutions to the challenges Canadians face every day. It points the way towards reducing commute times, safer roads and bridges, cleaner water and more affordable housing.
"This is a guide for Canadians to the upcoming federal election," said the new FCM president Raymond Louie. "It is a plan to make our country stronger and life better for all Canadians."
Raymond Louie was acclaimed president during Sunday's voting session. He replaces Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside, who was warmly congratulated for the success of his term in his office.
Delegates to the Annual Conference passed several important resolutions. There was overwhelming support for a resolution calling for an inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women. And a resolution calling for a National Leader's Debate on Municipal Issues received majority support from voting delegates.
By the end of the conference, The New Democratic Party of Canada, The Liberal Party of Canada and the Green Party of Canada had all agreed to participate in the debate.
"I encourage all Canadians to join our call for a national leaders debate, to ensure all parties participate," said FCM President Louie.
