BURNABY, BC - On a beautiful spring day in Burnaby, BC, the president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Brad Woodside, joined Dan Johnston, councillor for the City of Burnaby, Satvinder Dhaliwal, councillor for Burnaby and FCM Board member, and Richard Walker from Tree Canada to add a tree to the city's urban forest.
The planting ceremony took place outside the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel. The Acer Glabrum, a tree native to BC, was donated by Tree Canada as part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) Living Legacy program, which aims to plant a tree in every community that hosts an FCM event.
"Burnaby is delighted to host the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Board of Directors, and to offer municipal leaders from across Canada the chance to experience our great city," said councillor Dhaliwal. "The tree we plant today is a living legacy of our partnership with FCM that will benefit our community for decades to come."
"Planting trees beautifies and rejuvenates city streets, cleans the air and helps combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide emissions and producing oxygen," said Tree Canada's Richard Walker. "We're happy to partner with FCM in greening our cities and communities, and provide a healthier living environment for Canadians."
