"Today's announcement by the New Democratic Party of Canada (NDP) to invest in the FCM Green Municipal Fund (GMF) expands on an important federal-municipal partnership that strengthens sustainable development in Canadian municipalities across the country.
Since its inception, the Green Municipal Fund has supported sustainable projects that will generate more than $3.8 billion in economic activity along with significant environmental, fiscal and social benefits. The NDP announcement today recognizes the value that municipalities have in reducing GHG emissions while improving economic outcomes in communities.
The announcement also commits to help individual Canadians in our cities and communities improve energy efficiency through retrofits for 50,000 homes and 15,000 apartments. Canadian municipalities are leaders on the ground in the effort to improve our climate. The initiative proposed today will provide tangible support for our efforts."
