Statement from FCM President Jenny Gerbasi: The passing of Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell (07/07/2017)
On behalf of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Toronto Centre-Rosedale Councillor and Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell on this very sad day. Pam was a dear friend, long-time colleague, and mentor to many within the municipal sector, including FCM and its Board of Directors, where she served tirelessly since 1999.
Pam's commitment to serving her community, first as a school trustee and later as a city councillor, and her passion for the City of Toronto and its residents were evident to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. A dedicated advocate for affordable housing and poverty reduction, Pam brought tremendous energy and wisdom to her work in Toronto, across Canada, and internationally. Her leadership within FCM to promote women's participation in municipal government across Canada and around the world also enabled important steps forward to break the glass ceiling and pave the way for women leaders in our cities and communities.
Her tenacious spirit, friendship, and many significant contributions to her community and our country will be deeply missed, but will continue to inspire others who strive to make a difference in the world.
May she rest in peace.
