Statement by FCM President Jenny Gerbasi on Hurricane Irma (12/09/2017)
FCM President Jenny Gerbasi has issued the following statement on Hurricane Irma
FCM stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti, Cuba, other countries and territories in the Caribbean and the United States-as well as their loved ones in Canada-as they deal with the devastation brought by Hurricane Irma.
FCM is currently active in some regions of Haiti, with program headquarters located in Port-au-Prince. No Canadian municipal experts or volunteers were in Haiti or in the affected regions during the past days' events.
We have also been fortunate to enjoy close ties with local government associations in the Caribbean, Cuba and the United States. We offer them our full support as they work to recover and rebuild from this unprecedented natural disaster.
In the coming days, we will reach out to our local government counterparts in affected regions to convey our message of solidarity.
Over the next weeks, we will continue to monitor the situation and offer our assistance if required. In this emergency phase, we encourage members wishing to help to donate to the Red Cross' Hurricane Irma appeal.
