Canada’s Big City Mayors Meet In Winnipeg to Take Action On Infrastructure Investments and Key Municipal-Federal Priorities (01/06/2016)

Ottawa — The mayors of Canada's largest cities will meet in Winnipeg to discuss critical issues to building strong communities, and a strong Canada. Topping the agenda are the start of consultations on phase-2 of the 2016 Federal Budget commitments on infrastructure, ensuring affordable and quality housing for Canadians, and building a Nation-to-Nation partnership with First Nations communities.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities Big City Mayors Caucus (BCMC) brings together mayors and representatives from the country's 21 largest municipalities.

Led by BCMC Chair Don Iveson (Mayor of Edmonton), mayors will meet with Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde and Federal Cabinet Ministers the Hon. Jean-Yves Duclos (Families, Children, and Social Development) and the Hon. Amarjeet Sohi (Infrastructure and Communities). They will discuss the partnership between all orders of government as well as First Nations leaders in tackling issues such as economic development, housing, infrastructure, and environmental protection critical to building a strong country.
