Rural

Rural communities are crucial to the Canadian narrative. Wide open spaces, natural beauty, access to water and plentiful farmland-these are all reasons why people choose to live in rural Canada.

But rural Canada matters to everyone. We would not have such a prosperous country without the farmers who grow the food we eat and the varied industries and businesses headquartered in smaller communities. Supporting rural Canada means building a better and stronger country for all.

Small and remote communities face challenges that are unique to their size and location. And with populations spread out over wider areas, rural communities often don't have the resources to tackle significant infrastructure challenges.

Rural communities need tools to empower their growth and transformation. And FCM has helped shape unprecedented federal infrastructure investments that recognize the distinct realities of rural Canada.

But there's much more work to do. That's why FCM and our Rural Forum are a champion for rural issues and priorities. When we apply a "rural lens" to federal policies and programs, we ensure that Canada has the tools to build more sustainable and prosperous rural communities nationwide.
