As a candidate for Re-Election to the FCM board, I’d like to share a little about myself.

In my many years as Winkler City Councillor, I have served as Deputy Mayor and on many council committees as well as numerous inter-municipal committees, including Pembina Valley Water Co-op, South Central Regional Library and The Red River Basin Commission.

Having lived and worked in Northern, Central, and Southern Manitoba as well as Winnipeg, has prepared me well to understand the challenges faced by your Municipalities both large and small.

My work experience includes farming, teaching, building contracting, ambulance EMT, and firefighter. I am a proud husband, father of two married children and grandparent to four beautiful grandchildren.

My experience has proven invaluable in my work as your FCM Board Director. I have actively participated in FCM’s advocacy work with board members from across our great nation. I have proudly represented our Canadian municipalities as your FCM representative, both nationally and internationally.

As Vice-Chair of the Conference Planning Committee, I continue to advocate for a wide variety of relevant sessions for each of you attending our annual conference.

I believe that we are at our strongest when we work together. I strive to build partnerships with other communities and other orders of government through communication and collaboration. In the past years, we have had many meetings to share municipal challenges and collaborate on how best to advocate for your needs and to communicate them to Ottawa.

We have had successes, lobbying for broadband, cellular, doubling and indexing of “Gas Tax” and infrastructure investment, but there is much more to do.

I will continue to lobby for safe, affordable, and thriving communities. including cost of policing (retroactive RCMP costs and bail issues), Disaster Financial Assistance, water and waste-water, and affordable housing.

Whether your community is in the north or south, small or large, rural or urban, we all face tough challenges, balancing costs and services. As your representative on the FCM board, I pledge to continue lobbying for predictable, flexible and long-term funding.

I particularly enjoy working with President Kam and AMM, together advocating for you at the federal level. Working together with our AMM staff, we are a strong, unified voice for Manitoba.

I thank each of you who have reached out to me in the past, with challenges in your municipalities. Sharing your thoughts and concerns help me to learn more about your community and advocate more effectively.

You deserve to have experienced leadership, bringing Manitoba municipal needs to the table. I pledge to use my experience to continue to strongly advocate for your needs.

Please feel free to continue to contact me any time at: marvin.plett@cityofwinkler.ca or by text/phone at (204) 362-4148.

It would be an honour to continue representing your municipality on the FCM Board in the coming year. I respectfully ask for your support and vote so I can continue to use my experience to advocate for your community.

Thank You.
Marvin Plett
