Newcomer Day

How does Canada’s biggest and most diverse city welcome newcomers? Find out on May 25 at Nathan Phillips Square as Toronto celebrates its ninth annual Newcomer Day. This very special event is an important city-building initiative, acting as a grand celebration of inclusion and support for the well-being of newcomers to Toronto. This open-air festival highlights both the existing history and diversity of the city, as well as providing newcomers to the city with practical information and city knowledge. As such, it represents an exceptional on-the-ground showcase, presenting officials from other municipalities who are welcoming considerable amounts of new residents with approaches, activities and inclusion efforts to consider and learn from. Black Women in Leadership Exhibit
Thursday, May 25 and Friday, May 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, May 27, 12–5 p.m.
Location: 255 Spadina Road
The City of Toronto Archives, in partnership with BAND, the Black Artists’ Networks in Dialogue Gallery and Cultural Centre, presents Black Women in Leadership – an exhibition featuring portraits of 40 Black women leaders by four Toronto-based visual artists: Janice Reid, Leyla Jeyte, Jon Blak, and Patricia Ellah. Curated by Sarah Edo and Belinda Uwase, Black Women in Leadership celebrates and highlights contributions from Black women leaders across various sectors, including Toronto's first African Canadian female City Councillor—Beverley Salmon. Doors Open Toronto

Each May, Doors Open Toronto invites the public to explore the city’s most-loved buildings and sites. Since its inception in 2000, Doors Open Toronto has attracted more than two million visits to nearly 700 unique locations and remains the largest event of its kind in Canada.
The Doors Open Toronto 2023 theme is “City of Sound.” From the chime of subway doors to hidden rehearsal studios in garages; from symphonies to church choirs; from world-renowned theatres to tiny DIY spaces, Toronto is a City of Sound. Explore performance spaces, studios, and find music in the most unexpected of spaces at Doors Open.
