Lead applicant: Capital Region Housing Corporation
Lead municipality: District of Saanich
Sector: Energy (Sustainable Affordable Housing - SAH)
Project type: Plan
Approved funding through the Green Municipal Fund: $25,000

Capital Region Housing Corporation (CRHC, est. 1982) will assess new build net-zero energy ready options for the redevelopment of an affordable housing building in an underserved area of Saanich, BC. The project will increase the number of units on the site from 12 to 104 and will prioritize housing for indigenous people and youth experiencing homelessness, as well as women fleeing violence.

The SAH planning grant will support the applicant to undertake preliminary analysis of energy efficient design objectives, engage an energy consultant to undertake energy modelling and provide design guidance on approaches that will meet high energy efficient targets to work towards a net zero energy ready building.

Results from this planning grant will contribute to finalizing the schematic design, assessing the magnitude of project costs and validating the project benefits. The outcomes from this funding initiative will help the organization complete the necessary steps to apply for a SAH study grant and for CMHC seed funding to advance the project towards a capital project.
