FCM’s Canadian Women in Local Leadership (CanWILL) program is thrilled to announce the names of the communities selected for Inclusive Community Initiative grants. With this funding, we are supporting municipalities and regions that are working in collaboration with local partners to help women (with a particular focus on Indigenous, Black, racialized, youth and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community) run for office or remain in leadership positions in local government.

In total, nearly $90,000 in funding will go to nine initiatives in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

Many of the recipients are starting to implement their project this month. We look forward to reporting on their progress and sharing lessons learned with communities in all provinces and territories.

Applications were reviewed by a selection committee consisting of FCM staff and board members.

A second round of grant applications for Inclusive Community Initiatives will be launched this spring. Look out for your next opportunity to foster gender parity, diversity and inclusion in your community.

See the list of selected communities and read about their projects.

CanWILL is funded by the federal government through Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE).
