PCP is managed and delivered by FCM and ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability Canada (ICLEI Canada) and receives financial support from the Government of Canada and ICLEI Canada.
In 2019, several municipalities across Canada were selected to join the first Showcase Cities cohort led by Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) Canada. The Showcase Cities cohort was a yearlong initiative offering communities intensive support to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and advance local climate adaptation. In recognition of their dedication to the program, several municipalities are being awarded achievement badges.
GCoM’s achievement badges celebrate municipalities who have committed to becoming leaders in local climate action by transitioning to low-emission, climate resilient societies. The badges are awarded for achievements related to:
- Mitigation of climate change impacts
- Climate adaptation
- Access to energy
- Compliance to all three achievements
