General Call for Expressions of Interest – Haiti
The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, is the worst natural disaster ever to hit the Americas. This crisis calls for an unparalleled level of solidarity and collaboration from all Canadian municipalities.
In view of the extensive destruction and enormous needs for long-term assistance, FCM is encouraging a broad-based national municipal reconstruction effort for Haiti. FCM is inviting general expressions of interest from municipalties who wish to support post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Haiti. FCM will be looking for municipal volunteers with a range of expertise in urban planning, solid waste management, surface water drainage, sanitation, transportation, housing, etc. The ability to speak French, Creole and/or Spanish will be an asset. Before applying applicants should consider and be comfortable with the challenging working conditions that will exist in Haiti for some time to come.
Municipalities interested in volunteering staff members, and individuals, should apply to FCM’s interactive website. For additional information on the FCM and Haiti please send an email to: jdonnelly@fcm.ca.
