Stories from the Field
A Look Back On 25 Years of International Partnerships
Since 1987, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has been an active partner in strengthening the effectiveness and focus of Canada's international aid and in delivering concrete results. We are proud of our success in delivering high-quality international programming through the involvement of Canadian municipal experts in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Throughout 2012, our Stories from the Field series will recognize the significant contribution our Canadian municipal partners have made to local governance, democratic practices, and the provision of essential services in 43 developing countries, and counting. Thanks to them, thousands of men and women around the world have seen their daily lives changed for the better through improved municipal services, greater participation in the civic life of their community, increased local economic development and disaster reconstruction assistance.
The past 25 years speak clearly to the fact that municipalities have a leading role to play in Canada's international development efforts. The successes we have achieved and the people we have helped demonstrate without a doubt that we are stronger together.
