GMF Update

Now accepting new applications

As of December 1, 2011, we are accepting new applications for funding in all sectors for all types of initiatives.

To best manage the funding available to support the strongest initiatives, these program updates are now in effect:

  • a new competitive selection process for capital projects in the energy, transportation, waste and water sectors
  • updated eligibility criteria and funding limits for plans, studies and tests
  • an updated GMF Application Form and new support tools for applicants

All applicants need to use the updated GMF Application Form to apply for funding.

Applications received after December 1 will be considered for funding in the 2012–2013 fiscal year (beginning April 1, 2012).

Program updates as of December 1, 2011

Due to the high demand for GMF funding, the high quality of applications we receive, and the limited funding available each year, the following program updates are now in effect.

Selection process

  • Plans, feasibility studies, field tests and capital projects in the brownfields sector: The selection process for these initiatives remains the same. Applications are reviewed as they are received in a non-competitive process. They are not compared to other applications, but instead scored according to established criteria.
  • Capital projects in the energy, transportation, waste and water sectors: We have adopted a new competitive selection process for these initiatives. Only the best projects will be approved. We also reserve the right to partially fund projects. All applicants are encouraged to contact Paul Gregory, regional advisor, at 613-907-6291 for a free consultation.

No need to rush: This new process enables us to continue accepting new applications year-round and ensures that the best projects are approved regardless of when the application is submitted.

Eligibility

  • Plans: We fund sustainable neighbourhood action plans, community brownfield action plans and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction plans. We no longer fund other types of municipal plans.
  • Feasibility studies and field tests: Feasibility studies and field tests need to align with our criteria for capital projects to be eligible for funding.
  • Capital projects: There are no changes to the eligibility criteria for capital projects.

Funding amounts and eligible costs

  • Plans: The maximum grant for eligible plans is $175,000. This grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs.
  • Feasibility studies and field tests: The maximum grant for eligible feasibility studies and field tests is $175,000. This grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs.
  • Capital projects: There are no changes to the funding amounts for capital projects.

GMF Application Form and new support tools for applicants

  • Updated GMF Application Form: An updated GMF Application Form is now available. All applicants need to use the updated GMF Application Form to apply for funding.
  • Updated Eligibility Questionnaire: The updated Eligibility Questionnaire will help you determine whether you and your initiative are eligible for funding.
  • New Project Scorecard: If you are applying for funding for a capital project, our new Project Scorecard can give you a clear idea of what we are looking for in a strong application, and will help you assess how your application will be scored through our peer review process. Only the best projects will be funded. (Brownfields: Applicants for capital projects in the brownfields sector are also encouraged to use the Project Scorecard, but these applications are not assessed through our competitive selection process.)
