Opioid crisis: Mayors to meet federal ministers on national response (23/02/2017)

The newly-formed Mayors' Task Force on the Opioid Crisis will meet on Friday with federal Health Minister Jane Philpott and Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale to discuss a coordinated national response to an unprecedented rash of opioid overdoses and deaths.

The task force was launched this month by the Big City Mayors' Caucus of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Chaired by Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, it seeks to share best practices among cities addressing the opioid crisis and to work with all orders of government to coordinate a full national response.

At Friday's meeting, the mayors will begin working with Ministers Philpott and Goodale to ensure that federal strategies to combat opioid addictions reinforce the front-line work that is intensifying in communities across Canada.
