Webinar: Getting to 50 percent and Beyond

Waste Diversion Success Stories from Canadian Municipalities

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Session summary

"Zero waste" is gaining ground as a long-term goal for waste management, but it doesn't happen overnight. With all of the waste diversion policies, technologies, and programs out there, what is the right mix for your community? How can you take your waste diversion efforts to the next level, and which step will give you the biggest bang for your municipal buck?

The Regional District of Nanaimo and the City of Vaughan are diverting over 50 per cent of their waste from landfill. Carey McIver and Caroline Kirkpatrick will share what has worked - and what hasn't - for their communities, considering the influence of factors such as location, size, public policy, infrastructure, and civic engagement on increasing waste diversion.

This webinar will be held during Waste Reduction Week in Canada (October 19-25), and will offer a preview of the GMF session at the Canadian
Waste and Recycling Expo
in Vancouver, October 28-29.
