Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Session summary

The evidence is clear — when municipalities pursue sustainability, they can achieve environmental, social and economic benefits for their communities. But what are the links between sustainable development and health?

Learn about the health benefits of walkable, bikeable, transit-oriented communities, and find out how strategic alliances with the health sector have helped municipalities reach their sustainability goals. Speakers will:

  • discuss healthy, sustainable community indicators
  • present the latest Canadian evidence on the health benefits of active transportation
  • introduce innovative planning tools to help create more compact, complete and connected neighbourhoods and enhance public health through supportive urban forms
