A preview to the 2011 Sustainable Communities Conference
Thursday, December 2, 2010
The 2011 FCM Sustainable Communities Conference is going on the road to beautiful Victoria, B.C.!
This webinar will offer a sneak preview to the conference, featuring sustainability leaders from B.C.'s Capital Regional District and the City of Victoria.
Sarah Webb will trace the Region's Energy and Emissions Plan from its inception to its implementation across 13 member municipalities and 3 electoral areas. Hear about community-based initiatives to engage businesses, youth, commuters and homeowners in reducing their footprint. Learn how the Plan helped to initiate a regional climate service and how both climate mitigation and adaptation are integrated into land use, transportation, parks and protected areas, housing and more through the Regional Sustainability Strategy.
Kim Fowler will profile the City of Victoria's Sustainability Framework, an integrated planning and decision-making tool to ensure that daily operations and decisions are informed by long-term sustainability principles. Find out how the city is engaging the public to help them "walk the talk" in their municipal business practices, and to create a clear agenda for long-term community change.
