Webinar: Engaging the commercial sector to reduce GHGs

Success stories from Sustainable Waterloo Region and BOMA Canada

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

2:00–3:30 p.m. EDT

Session summary

For the last five years, the Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR) has been working with area organizations to validate their sustainability strategies and reduce carbon emissions. SWR's flagship Regional Carbon Initiative program has engaged over 60 organizations, representing 13 per cent of the region's workforce, that have collectively committed to reducing 45,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases (GHGs) within the next 10 years. In response to communities across Canada interested in creating similar programs, SWR has formed the Sustainability CoLab — a national non-profit that supports community-driven, action-oriented approaches to business sustainability.

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada is the voice of the Canadian commercial real estate industry, with over 3,200 members in regional associations across the country. BOMA Canada will present its services and showcase Hamilton City Hall, a BOMA 2013 Earth Award Winner and participant in the BOMA BESt program. BOMA BESt is a national environmental recognition and certification program for existing commercial buildings.

Learn more about both organizations and how they can support municipal governments in working with the commercial sector to reduce GHGs.
