Fraser Patterson

I am a councillor in Victoria County, Cape Breton. I was first elected in 2003 and re-elected in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. I have a record of winning. With my 14 years of elected service and my attendance at 6 FCM annual meetings, I feel I have the necessary knowledge and experience to be an effective member of the the FCM Board of Directors representing Nova Scotia.

Outmigration is a serious issue for Nova Scotia, especially the rural areas. I believe that all levels of government have a role to play in tackling this problem. I commit to working with municipal representatives from across the country to find solutions to reverse the trend of decreasing population.

Over my 14 years of elected service there have been many things accomplished but there are a few that I am especially proud of.

First, I chaired a committee that completed a branding exercise for Victoria County.

Second, I was part of the council that set up our own solid waste system that led to more predictable costs than the previously used tender system.

Third, during my time on council, Victoria County became a leader in providing high speed Internet to its residents.

Finally, as Chair of the Board of Alderwood long term care facility, myself and the rest of the Board, oversaw the planning and construction of a new state of the art long term care facility.

In closing, I would ask for your support in this election. I feel I have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to represent you on the FCM Board of Directors.
