COMMUNITY ENERGY SYSTEMS: GREENING YOUR BOTTOM LINE FROM THE FCM'S 2009 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Community Energy Systems: Greening your bottom line from the FCM's 2009 Annual conference

How can your municipality reduce your impact on the environment and save money? While sustainable initiatives gained momentum during the 1980s and ‘90s, approximately half of Canada´s energy use results from daily activities in Canadian communities, where buildings consume up to 40 per cent of our total energy and account for 30 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. Point strategies like solar heating have shifted to holistic green design strategies. This workshop will introduce the concept of Integrated Community Energy Systems, a community- based approach to integrating land-use, energy, transportation, waste and water systems so as to reduce greenhouse gases, air pollution and waste while saving your municipality money. In addition, new processes like Building Information Modelling (BIM) are being instituted globally, in order to accurately predict outcomes and enhance the decision making process. Learn how each of these systems complements sustainable innovation and directly benefits your community.
